Here is my design thinking prototype. First, I wrote down a list of all the suggestions given to me on my Coggle. I then narrowed the list down to three big ideas to complete my ideation graphic organizer. After much thought, I decided to focus my prototype on digital storytelling. I created a concept map/storyboard type of model for my prototype in Microsoft Word. I did not realize that you cannot upload or link documents to blog posts though so here is a screenshot of the prototype. If you need a larger version to view, let me know and I will be happy to email you my document.

Kendra,
ReplyDeleteI'm really biased, but I'm THRILLED you chose digital storytelling as an avenue. Differentiation always sounds good, but in practice, it's not always easy to pull off- storytelling apps (in my experience) make that less of a burden.
I think you'll find a lot of diversity in the apps available, and probably more so with 3rd graders. There are lots out there that are suited particularly well for younger kids. I think I mentioned Kathy Schrock as a resource before, right? Go to her site- there's a whole section specifically on digital storytelling. http://goo.gl/QTCmnB
You mentioned making sure the lesson is tied to your objective/skill. Good call. I'm trying to envision that more. For instance, if you were focusing on plot sequence or summarizing, maybe using an app like storyboardthat.com (web 2.0). For a larger project, perhaps something like Scribble Press by Fingerprint, which is a storybook creator, and has preloaded story templates, which might be some good scaffolding for 3rd graders.
Regardless, I think your approach is pretty sound. Think about what you want to do first, then find an app for it. I find that much more fruitful than saying, "hey, that app is sweet, how can I use it?"
Thanks for the app/website ideas! I have looked through a few different lists of apps I have found online and it's kind of overwhelming! I have used a few of the apps listed before but most of them I have never heard of. It's hard to know which ones are worth trying... I can't download them all! I have used iMovie, Puppet Pals, and Book Creator (once each). Do you have any additional app suggestions that you have used and loved? I will definitely look into the ones you have already mentioned. Thanks!
